High quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, providing them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of Art, Craft and Design.
At Stonehouse Park Infant School we aim to provide our children with the inspiration, opportunities and experiences to develop their own ideas, using a range of media and techniques.
From when the children start in Reception, we encourage them to choose their own resources and equipment while supporting their individual creativity and progression of ideas.
From Reception through to Year 2 we look at the work of different artists and sculptors and help the children draw inspiration and ideas from them.
For example, in Reception the children look at the paintings of and Giuseppe Arcimboldo and then create their own three dimensional fruit and vegetable faces.
In Year One the children study different artist’s impressions of tigers including a famous painting by Henri Rousseau before making their own study in a choice of media.
In Year 2 we look at a range of artists’ works including the sculptures of Andy Goldsworthy and the paintings of Monet and Van Gogh.
We also enjoy working together as a whole school creating works of Art together.
We particularly enjoy our recycled art day where the children come together across the year groups to produce exciting two and three dimensional art.
We hope that by the end of Year 2 that our children will be able to confidently and enthusiastically communicate what they see, feel and think through the use of colour, texture, form and pattern and space, and have a genuine love and enthusiasm for creativity.
